Bette & Cring has begun work on the $23 Million Combined Heat and Power Plant (cogeneration) at the Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, D.C. This design-build project was awarded in the Fall as a firm-fixed-price contract by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), Washington.
The design-build team for this contract is headed by Bette & Cring along with our energy division, Cogen Power Technologies, for the overall management of the project. Team members, Concord Engineering (of Voorhees, New Jersey) along with RMF Engineering (of Baltimore, Maryland) will lead the design.
This project will feature a natural gas fired gas turbine and heat recovery steam generator system similar to our established 5-Megawatt CHP Plants at Albany Medical Center and St. Joseph’s Hospital. Although the technology is similar, this plant will be constructed at a military installation so the project will be designed with specific considerations including: Anti-Terrorism Force Protection (ATFP); Low Impact Development (LID); and other Federal contracting requirements.
“We will kick-off this project in February with a team building “Partnering” meeting with all of the project stakeholders and participants. This is a facilitated program designed to reach consensus on how the Team communicates, how we will measure success, and has nothing to do with the actual “bricks and mortar” issues. Enthusiasm from our team members and the exchange of ideas will generate momentum to get us moving in the right direction.” explained Dick White, Bette & Cring’s Construction Project Manager.
This project will be completed by November 2022.
