Bette & Cring Completes Army National Guard Maintenance Facility
Bette & Cring’s Building Division recently completed the construction of a new maintenance facility which will serve the New York Army National Guard’s 42nd Infantry Division.
The 18,808 SF, masonry and insulated metal panel building offers 11,000 SF of maintenance space and 8,000 SF of administrative space.
Featuring three, general purpose work bays, the garage allows six military vehicles to be serviced inside simultaneously. Each work bay is equipped with its own station that provides ready-to-use antifreeze, transmission fluid, compressed air, water, grease, oil, an exhaust extraction system, and an emergency eyewash station.
The garage also features a single girder, 10-ton capacity crane to assist with lifting equipment.
A variety of offices and meeting spaces are situated throughout the administrative space, as well as a break room, kitchen, bathrooms, a locker room, and utility rooms.
Achieving U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Gold Certification, the maintenance building includes photovoltaic solar panels (on the roof of the garage and in a field behind the facility), a battery storage system, and a stormwater retention system which will save rainwater to wash vehicles. The solar panels will generate more power than the maintenance shop will need, allowing the 42nd Infantry Division to export power back to the grid.
Additionally, in an effort to maximize sustainability and lessen the environmental impact of new construction, 75% of the construction waste generated was recycled or reused.
The project was completed months ahead of schedule thanks to a great partnership with Bette & Cring, New York’s Office of General Services, and the New York Division of Military and Naval Affairs.
The new maintenance facility will support 17 Army National Guard units within the Capital Region.
