PROJECT DETAILS

  • 74-Bedroom Senior Housing Complex
  • Seven-Story Gut Renovation
  • Net-Zero Carbon Emissions

Bette & Cring was the general contractor for the complete gut-renovation of Colonial II Senior Apartments in Rome, NY. The complex – designated for seniors and people with disabilities – is now the first Net-Zero carbon emissions senior housing in New York State. The seven-story building is equipped with a closed loop geothermal system that encompasses thirty-four 500’ deep geothermal wells that connect to individual ground source heat pumps in the building. In an effort to minimize disturbance to the green space, the geothermal well field was installed beneath a site-mounted solar array.

The building received exterior upgrades with more efficient and cost-effective windows and sheathing, as well as a new roof. Apartments were reconfigured and feature environmentally-friendly finishes to provide more spacious and modern units.
